Do you know that in 2012 the Granite State ASHRAE Chapter will celebrate 25 years?  The Granite State Chapter was officially approved by the ASHRAE Board of Directors at the January 1987 meeting in New York City.  The official Chapter Charter was presented by ASHRAE President Fredrick Kohlos on March 19, 1987 at the Highway Hotel in Concord, NH.

In anticipation of our 25th Anniversary in March 2012, we are going to spotlight some of the early leaders of the Granite State ASHRAE Chapter.  Our first profile is of our own Deanna Bradley!

Deanna participated in the creation of the Granite State ASHRAE Chapter.  Deanna had gotten into the HVAC business in 1983 – going to work for Buckley Associates.  She started part time as inside office help and then moved into estimating.  It wasn’t long before she was full time and heavily involved in estimating – all the while learning the HVAC business.  Through her contacts in the business, Deanna was asked to become involved in the steering committee to form a new ASHRAE Chapter in New Hampshire.  Prior to this, anyone in New Hampshire involved in ASHRAE was a member of the Boston Chapter.  Deanna recalls there were several meetings over several months at Angelo’s Restaurant on Hanover Street in Manchester.  Finally the Granite State Chapter was officially chartered!

Very early in the Chapter’s history, Deanna was Secretary, became Vice President for the 1988/1989 year, President Elect for the 1989/1990 Year, and on July 1, 1990 became the President for the 1990/1991 year.  So, Deanna was the 4th President of the Granite State Chapter and also the first female President of the Granite State Chapter!  Quite an accomplishment indeed!  As President Elect and then President, Deanna also served as our Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) Alternate and then Delegate for 1990/1991 and 1991/1992.  (In doing research for this article, I also learned that Deanna was presented with a plaque from the Chapter in 1988 for Outstanding Member!)

Serving as President was not the end of Deanna’s ASHRAE career however – she served the Chapter as Membership Promotion Chair from 1992 – 1995 and then as Research Promotion (RP) Chair from 2002 through June 2010.  Deanna enjoyed great success as RP Chair, and started our Annual Super Bowl Pool which raises money for RP.  She also organized the bus trip to New York City for the ASHRAE Meeting in 2009, which was a great fundraiser for the Chapter.  In addition, Deanna has served on the Chapter’s Board of Governors from July 2006 until the present time, and assisted Newsletter Editor, Dave Dussault for a number of years in the 1990’s.

Deanna also was very involved in putting on the CRC in Nashua, NH in 1993 – the first (and thus far only) CRC hosted by the Granite State Chapter.  Deanna worked with John Gratiot (Chapter President just before Deanna) along with several other Granite State ASHRAE members planning and hosting the CRC.  Deanna’s role for the CRC was Spouse Activity, and the Spouse Activity that year was a trip to Canterbury to Shaker Village.  Appropriately, in recognition for her efforts, Deanna was presented with a beautiful Shaker Workshop Clock inscribed with the chapter name and Region 1 CRC 1993.

In her professional life, Deanna worked at Buckley Associates from 1983 – 2000, joined ADC in outside sales from 2000 – 2007, moved to S.J. Ginns in outside sales from 2007 – 2009, and then joined Boston Air Products from 2009 until 2011.  In early 2011, Deanna decided to retire from the HVAC business and take a part time job at Kohl’s Department Store.

Deanna was one of the early leaders of the Granite State ASHRAE Chapter.  We are deeply indebted to Deanna for the leadership she has provided the Chapter since the beginning.  A big THANK YOU!!  to Deanna for all you have done!
